Winter Sports Preview

Athletes preparing for a new season

            Roosevelt has just wrapped up its fall sports season and is gearing up for its winter season. The three sports for the winter season are girls’ basketball, boys’ basketball, and wrestling. All three will to try to match the excitement of the fall season.
            Boys’ basketball began the season last week with their head coach Mr. Predmore and a strong team. The team is already having practices after school. The team looks promising with seniors returning to play varsity: Tony Predmore, Zach Wilson, Dalton Eining, Vince Pinezich and Angelo Villamil. The team is looking to improve on last season with a run to the playoffs.
            Girls’ basketball under the direction of Coach Longoria is looking to have a good season. Preseason camp began Monday and went through Wednesday November 9th- 11th 3pm to 5pm. Tryouts were the 12th -13th 3pm to 5pm and the 16th- 17th from 5pm- 8pm. The girls scrimmaged against Weld central on Saturday the 21st, and will face Northglenn on Tuesday the 24th.
            Wrestling is the other winter sport going on. The coach is Mike Pallotto. The wrestling season has already started. Some of the key wrestlers have been wrestling for awhile now. Wrestling officially started on Saturday with a 6-mile run.
The team will be making a trip to Windsor on Thursday Dec. 3 to kick off the season, followed by a trip to Rocky Ford on Dec. 5. One of the wrestlers is Ty Murphy. “We have a room full of good wrestlers, and it will be a competition at any weight.” 
The teams of the winter season look strong and are looking for support from their school.
