Cross Country - The new and improved team ready to run
This year in cross country Coach Steve Breninger has been pushing the team harder than ever before. This year there are nearly 50 total participants on the girls’ and boys’ teams. This is more than there has ever been on the team since the school started.
For those of you who do not know about cross country, they run in each race 5K or about 3.2 miles. They run on any terrain and in any weather.
So that you can picture this, imagine you are standing at the starting line and you are surrounded by hundreds of other runners. You have no room to turn or move. Finally after what seems like an hour the gun goes off. All at once everyone takes off. There is no room to run and people are throwing elbows to get there own space.
It continues like this for about four hundred meters. Then it starts to thin out and you try and keep going as hard as you can to get to the finish.
The way that you win in cross country is by having the least amount of points. The way that you do this is by adding up the places that each member of the team receives.
The Riders and Lady Riders hope to be on the low end of those scores once the season begins.
