Game filled with GOALS! for 1st year team
To get into the season of sports and to keep up with all the other 4A high schools, our school has decided to add boys’ and girls’ soccer teams. Boys’ soccer is in the fall and has already started.
The Rider Wrap Up staff interviewed Mr. Seybert, the head coach for the soccer team. Mr. Seybert is really excited to have a soccer team this year. The Riders are competing as a JV team.
Mr. Seybert said, “It gives the students more opportunities to play a sport.”
He enjoys coaching as much as he enjoys playing the game of soccer. He likes coaching mainly for the fact that he gets to interact with students that are not in his class.
To Mr. Seybert the game of soccer is competitive. Before Mr. Seybert started coaching here, he coached at Ft. Morgan High School. He coached there for two years. After coaching there for two years he moved to Roosevelt High School to become a teacher, as well as a coach once we got a soccer team. Seybert also coached his son’s little league soccer team.
For it being the first year of soccer, there was a good turnout. There are 18 players that went out for the team this year. According to Coach Seybert, the soccer team looks better every day that they are out on the field. Each day they work on the fundamentals of soccer as well as working on conditioning. The soccer team won their first game over Beth Eden 4-1.
