Soccer has only been here for one year, going on to the second, but this year with a varsity team. For some, it’s their last year. Omar Portillo has some goals for his last year playing soccer. Omar wants to have his final season of soccer be a great year, even better than it was last year. They won 10 games last year, and they are going to try to keep it up or do better than they did last year.
Omar played soccer when he was in the second grade; then he stopped and didn’t return until his junior year. He is playing defense this year, and he said, “I will play any position that they put me in, and I will try my best on the field.”
He thinks that this is going to be a good year with all the players they have this year.
Omar knows what he’s looking for; he plans on pushing not only himself but his team in order to make his last year better than the last. “I just want to have a great year and win most of our games.” He knows it can be done!
Omar wants to make and win the playoffs this year; he knows that if he puts his mind to it and with that extra little push it will be accomplished. Omar is the type of player who does not give up, and that means not giving up on his team as well.
Omar did attend the camp this summer, along with most of the returning players on the team. He enjoyed it not only because he likes the sport but because it helps him improve the amazing skills he already has.
Soccer has always been one of Omar’s favorite sports. He’s played before, but playing now is so much better, he claims, because there is a lot more intensity and competitiveness. He believes that teamwork is very important for a sport and, “this team shows exactly that.” Omar still plans on playing after he graduates.
Omar has played more than just soccer; he’s played basketball. To Omar sports are a good way to learn more than just playing the sport. Omar says that soccer is his number one choice, and he wouldn’t hesitate to saying no about playing any other sport during the fall. Omar puts hard work and dedication into soccer.
Omar just wants the support from his fellow classmates to go to as many games as they can. With the support from everyone they would have their goals for this season accomplished this year.
