For the past few years softball has been overlooked at our school. This year, however, softball will have a greater impact on all of the students here at RHS, resulting in a greater fan base attending the games. The softball team plans on moving forward and improving a significant amount from last year’s successes.
In an interview with Kaitlin Flynn, softball this year is looking much stronger. She said that there are a few new faces, including some freshmen, but they just add on to the talent. Many of the key returning players are seniors now, so this will result in a greater amount of leadership, which is a key factor the softball team needs to work on.
Last year the softball team had a total of four wins. To build off of those wins and to succeed even more, they will have a stronger pitcher and offense. This should result in more chances at bat, thus resulting in more runs. Kaitlin hopes to have a .500 record this year with their stronger offense and tougher defense
With greater chances at winning, Kaitlin hopes that the team will be serious about this sport. “I just hope we take it more seriously. If we do that I’m sure we will win more.”
Kaitlin also says this year she wants the team to be more intense at practice so it will transfer over to the games. Practice is where they faltered last year, but this year she is looking for that to change. She really cares about this sport and is hoping for a stronger team in basic skills, and enthusiasm.
Kaitlin Flynn, your team leader of the softball team this year, even states, “I sure am feeling confident about the season this year.” Thus, the softball team will hope to change the views many of the team’s followers here at RHS
After an all-day scrimmage at Windsor on Aug. 21, the Lady Riders began their season at home vs. Northridge on Tuesday, Aug. 24. The team destroyed the Northridge Grizzlies 12-1 for a positive beginning to their season. The Lady Riders contest Friday versus Erie was tougher competition, as the team fell to the defending class 3A state champs by a score of 8-0.
Still, it is plain to see that the Lady Riders are much improved and could very well be on their way to a successful 2010 season.
