State Track and Field 2011
After an exceptional track season which saw numerous personal records set and new school records established the Roosevelt Roughriders close their 2011 track season with state competition this week at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood, CO. With state qualifying standards set at the top 18 performances, Roosevelt went into last week’s conference meet with intentions to bring home team hardware as well as making the most of the last qualifying meet of the year. Many Riders gave 100% at conference and their efforts were recognized by first place finishes and all-conference recognition. In the discus, Michael Boothe threw a personal best of 145'04", won the conference meet and moved his position to 16th in the state.
In the hurdles, Mackenzie Krause, Hannah Eining and Viktor Baeza each have qualified for state and look to bring hardware home from the 4A Championships. Krause has been in the top five all season and is currently ranked 6th in the state. Eining is 16th in the state. Baeza has also performed well all season and is ranked 18th.
State competition will also see two Roosevelt Riders vaulters as Josh Semmler and Tanner Starr have both qualified for state, 17th and 15th respectively. Starr and Semmler who are both sophomores have set and reset the 10th grade records in the pole vault this year. Semmler has vaulted 12'6" and Starr has cleared 12'7".
Jumping their way to state will be three high jumpers as Dylan Cunningham, Hector Dominquez and Tiffany Trimble all have qualified to jump off on Thursday and Friday. Cunningham and Dominguez have both cleared 6'2" and expect to jump high this weekend. Trimble, who holds the school record in the high jump at 5'4", is ranked 5th in the state jumping 5'2" this year.
Paul Acuna will be running in the 800 and is ranked 17th. Acuna ran a 1:59.95 at the Randal Hess and will try to fly around the track two times and collect some accolades from a season of hard work and dedication.
Haley Placke set the school record in the 400 and is seeded as 8th in the state. Her time of 58.76 was set at the St. Vrain Invitational in Longmont.
Rebecca Eidson qualified in the shot throwing 34'4". As a sophomore she has had solid performances in recent meets and will join only seven other underclassmen to make the finals.
Wrapping up the Riders heading to state are the girls 4X400 and the girls Sprint Medley Relay. The 4X400 is ranked 15th and is comprised of Haley Placke, Kylee Placke, Mackenzie Krause and Abbey Kehr. The SMR is 8th and is run by Ashli Jones, Kenzie Krause, Haley Placke and Kylee Placke
