Legion D State Champs

ROOSEVELT LEGION D TEAM WINS STATE TITLE!

The Roosevelt Post #70 Legion D team won the state championship in Woodland Park on July 25 with a 17-11 victory over Ft. Morgan in the title game. Roosevelt entered the tournament as the 3rd and final seed from the Northern Leage, but the team stormed through the tournament undefeated.

The team, which is comprised of incoming freshmen in the Class of 2014 and one 8th grader, defeated Strasburg in the opening round on Thursday, July 22. Next, it was a victory over Sterling on July 23. In a battle of two unbeatens, the Riders then took care of Class 5A Mountain Range on July 24.

In the champsionship game, Roosevelt trailed 8-0 before roaring from behind with 11 runs in the third inning to take the lead for good. Ryan Flynn, Justice Gonzales and Kane Kratz handled the pitching chores in the title game victory. Desmond Hamby was named the tournament's Outstanding pitcher for his performance against Mountain Range in the semifinals, and Kane Kratz was selected as the tournament MVP.

Other members of the team include James Rodriguez, Andrew Dimmitt, Chris James, Doug Novosad, Zach Courrejou, Randy Molinar, Nate Ramirez, Logan Dingwall, David Romanowski and Jake McCarthy.

The Riders were coached by Jim McFarland, Rob Vanderschaaf and Brett McFarland.

 ROUGHRIDER VARSITY FINISHES SUMMER 29-19

The Roosevelt Legion Post 70 varsity baseball team finished the season Saturday, July 24 when they were eliminated fromteh Legion B District tournament. Despite the end to the season the Riders were very impressive in the month of July, going 15-5 after finishing the month of June at an even 14-14.

Highlights included a final four finish in the NCBL Wood Bat League and a 9-game winning streak duiring a two-week period. The returning varsity players from the 2009 season provided excellent leadership while the team's underclassmen and first-time varsity level performers improved steadily to make major contributions to the success of the team.

The Riders will now take a short break before resuming Fall Ball action after Labor Day.
