Coach Montoya is a former Roosevelt Rough Rider, graduating in 2009.  While wrestling at Roosevelt High School, Montoya was a four-time State Placer (placing 5th in 2006, 2nd in 2007, 3rd in 2008, and 3rd in 2009) and two-time All American.  Coach Montoya was part of the 2008 Roosevelt Rough Rider Wrestling Club that won a 3A State Title in 2008. After RHS, Montoya attended Western State Colorado University where he wrestled for the Mountaineers.  He graduated from Western State in 2013, and returned to coach his alma mata in 2014. The 2014 - 2015 Wrestling Season was Coach Montoya's first year as the head coach of the Rough Riders, and the Rough Riders qualified seven wrestlers for the State Tournament.
